My pug was very raspy about 2mos ago. sounded like he just needed to cough, and clear his throat. We took him to vet, and he put winston on an antibiotic, and a steroid, thinking it was either an infection, or allergies, well it seemed the antibiotic worked great, he cleared up, and was great for a month, well now this week its starting back up again,,,does anyone know what this could be? Afraid im gonna have to get him back on the antibiotics,,,thanks!!

raspy or loud breathing or snoring is not uncommon in pugs. how is his weight. an overweight pug can be alot louder than a trim pug. make sure that it is not wheezing, that can be a sign of something else. does it happen only at certain times like after exercise? is it accompanied by coughing? he might just have allergies and maybe benadryl can help for a short term fix. i would get him checked out by a vet that is familiar with the pug breed and knows their breathing. this way, they can check his lungs to make sure they are clear. sorry for all the questions but just want to know all the facts before giving an opinion. oh, and welcome to pugspot!

Could be kennel cough. If ya had him in for it before, ya need to let them know he is doing it again. Also Dog Flu has been really bad this year, so don't take any chances with your pugger. Make sure you get him a borditella shot if he hasn't had one.
And they do have one for dog flu now. Ya don't want to let a cough go untreated. If it turns to nemonia it could turn ugly. -

for benadryl, it is 1mg per pound so if he is around 20+ lbs, one tab would be fine. the tabs are usually 25mg each and my vet said it would be fine to give my mikey, he's about 20-21lbs. one tablet. like kat said, i would just get it checked out to make sure it isn't kennel cough, usually with that though there's alot of coughing. has he been around other dogs? if it was an elongated pallate, he would have trouble breathing after exercise, so i don't think it's anything like that. i have a feeling it might be allergies too, but i'm no vet. have you changed any cleaning products or detergents lately? it doesn't say where you are from in your profile, so i don't know what the outside environment is like where you live. is anythng blooming now or have you put anything on the lawn? i know, more questions...sorry.

This sounds exactly like whats going on with Buffy! She has been wheezing and it sounds like she is congested, like a cold or something. I don't know what to do

Winny, I will add this, you said he is over weight? Get that weight off. It doesn't help them breath. China Rose and sulynn were on the heavy side at one time until I learned how to feed right. And they both would breath hard and heavy. As soon as they got to a good weight, it stopped. Mine would breath like they were having trouble catchin their breath.
