Eating carpet?

So our little 8 month year old puppy pug, Sofia, has gotten in to the horrible habit of scratching, pulling, and eating carpet.
We've tried various "bitter apple" type sprays from the store but unless we put it on the spots atleast once a day, she'll still get in to it.
Anybody have suggestions on getting her to stop?

I have 2 pug pups (7 months old) with the same issue and haven't figured out a cure either

mine doesnt eat the carpet but we have a bare floor and he tries to eat the wooden floor.

When you see it happening say "NO" and pick the dog up and put it in the laundry for 5 minutes. Eventually the dog will learn that if it plays with the carpet it will get punished and will stop it.

puggy time out! Now that one needs to be told to the Dog Whisperer"!!!
Tanzie has an old issue with carpets as well. It comes and goes, but I did notice that it is done when she is looking for attention.
The areas she would do this is not where she may have had an "accident", or where we would normally walk on and leave a scent.
Yet, it is right in front of us. She will "DIG" and stop to look at us and if we see her she tilts her head and begins to do it again.
We try to distract her and have her play with something else. It usually works and she forgets to kill the carpet for awhile. -

I have only had minor issues with the carpet and Misaki. A firm no and she jumps and runs! I think I've been lucky!

We picked Merlin because he was the timid one in the litter, now he's turned into the crazy one.

Mad Dog,
I have not had pugs for very long, yet, I now seem to be running into many of them and their mom and dads talk with me and we compare notes. I also read a lot of the forums on PUG SPOT. I don't think there is a TIMID pug out there, anywhere, once they get at least 3 to 4 months old.
Merlin played you and he knows just how to do it. It is an inherited trait. Puggies are a h#%l of a lot smarter than we ever give them credit for.
Crazy is not a description of a pug, it is a trait that they all share.
Look up different forums and read them, it will really help you understand what all of us go through.
You are not alone.

Isnt it funny, they all seem to have their funny little ways.... or as i call them their little pet peeves, they keep us all so busy.... with alot of worry mixed in.... with a heaping serving of love.... the perfect pug recipe

My Lucy (she just turned 1) does this (or at least tries to do this) all the time. We have found the spray bottle method to be effective. She doesn't like getting squirted with water, so she will stop the unwanted behavior if one of us says "Spray Bottle!" in a stern voice.

The spray bottle works good even on the pugs that like water, I don't even have to get it I just say squirty and they run.
Pugs can be so smart. -

Try Chili Powder. It works like a charm. I currently have orangish-red carpeting around my baseboards, but at least I have carpeting, ha!!

yeah i agree with KatB i use the spray bottle... mine shapes up REAL quick when she just sees it
