I am starting this topic for two reasons, first I wanted to share this option for shedding and hear what you guys have to say. Second, I wanted to help push those obnoxious ads off our home page!
My best friend has a 67 pound rescue pit mix who is a shedding machine, she had his short hair trimmed at the groomer's suggestion. That was four months ago and it was a success. Today I took Bella to be brushed and bathed, she is blowing her coat and the hair was crazy out of control. The groomer suggested the same for Bella. I was not sure but she looks adorable and the shedding has magiclly ceased! Check out her picture.......

I guess maybe it sould be o.k. in a warmer climate, but here in Minnesota it's pretty cold out right now. They need the inner coat for warmth.

Same here....it is -8 this morning (which is actually pretty warm for here in Feb.) and it will be a month or so before we can think about this. But Bella does look nice and sleek and clean!

No worries, yesterday it was a record 79 degrees here in Memphis. The normal highs for this time of the year is mid to high 60's. Not to mention she has quite a collection of fleece sweaters! But you guys have a point, this is not a fall/winter solution for most.

It is crazy adorable! 86 here yesterday and only Feb. We have known all along The Mag would need a little wading pool in the summer and mostly stay inside the air conditioned house except early and late for a few minutes each day...this will be a good idea for her-do they shave it or cut it with some special tool?

It is Very adorable. But,... I have heard that once you mess with a pugs coat, it will not come back the same, and in some cases it comes back thicker in a bad way. Just would be curious to see how it all comes back in. Do you plan to let it grow back out for winter months? Or are you doing this Fur-ever? LOL. I woulod be extremly curious to know how it turns out. There is quite a bit of controversy about it online. Dana and Nani

You guys are right about not shaving a short haired dog, especilly one with a double coat like most pugs. Make sure they cut them short NOT shave them to the skin. Bella and now Desi have the short under coat and are soft to the touch. The left the cutiest little bit of hair on the tip of their tails like a lion's tail! LOL
Thanks for your replies! Good luck, post a picture if you have your babies cut. I would love to see them! Marti and the puggers; Desi and Bella :p

I have been shaving my puggie since he was 1 year old , his hair grows back the same and I love how he looks. It is easier to care for them when their hair is short and detect any skin rashes and/or fleas

I have no problem with people shaving their pugs. I have not and will not do this to my own. I perfer a good diet, and good grooming products. Pugs do shed alot. But I also do alot of brushing and using the fur-manator on Rose. And that really helps. Kennel club pres. is a groomer and has shaved many a pug. She usually only runs the grooming clippers over the longer coat areas like around the neck.

I'm hearing a lot about the Furminator-what exactly is it, do people find it works, and is it very noisy? I have a very skittish Cocker-Pug who doesn't like noises and don't pull out nail clippers in front of her because she heads for the other room. But I am curios about this product in helping with the massive amount of hair my 3 babies produce.
