Biting older dog

We rescued a pug/chihuahua mix puppy. she is about 3-31/2 months old. She is consrantly chewing and biting on my 8 year old Pug. She has gotten Onyx so afraid of her, Onyx hides all day if she can. I have tried spray bottle, time outs, swats with rolled up newspaper. She just backs off, waits until she thinks yo are not looking and goes right back. Does anyone have any other sugestions

Well, at that age she is still VERY MUCH a baby and a lot of them do this but usually it is a phase that will pass. Have you ever noticed how rough a litter of puppies are on "each other"? I hope you don't have to take her back-so sad. That mix should produce an adult that is smaller than Onyx even after full-grown so she could easily turn the tables if she gets tired of it. Since she seems afraid, could you keep them apart more during this phase? Besides the water bottle and newspaper, the puppy might respond to dry beans in an empty plastic water bottle with a lid-shaking it at her may make a noise that gets the message across. But, the puppy in her will have to grow out of some of this-does she have toys and could someone play some puppy games with her? Puppies can be so hard-you may have to let the puppy stay in a crate just some-not too much, of course, and at that time give Onyx special attention. A baby gate to keep the puppy in one room part-time may help to get through this. I don't think this means the new puppy is bad-just a puppy. I wish you good luck.

she has plenty of toys, we discover a box of toys in the garage that we had collected. She has a small kong she dearly loves and a really hard nubbie ball. Also 4-6 stuffed squeaky toys. she also has a small tug toy we play with her , T obi will nip at her like Mother dogs do, but Onyx just cowards in a corner whinning. Had forgotten about the coins in a bottle will try

MaggieMae, We have been using the can and coins. She really doesn't like that sound. Sometimes She barks at it and goes back to what she was doing but about 75% of the time she stops. Guess that's not to bad for a baby !! Thanks for reminding Me about it :0)

The problem you are seeing is that she is half Chihuahua. This breed is known for this kind of stuff. They don't back down. You may have to really work and work on this. Keep doing what you are doing. She is still young age, and this is puppy stuff. Hope you can change this behavor. But be warned, she may not change from the biting. I hope she does.
