The top seller on Amazon is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Solvit-62294-Vehicle-Safety-Harness/dp/B000MD3MHS/
It's got lots of pretty great reviews too.
If you've got a *cough cough* "heavier" pug
then you might want the Medium instead of the small: http://www.amazon.com/Solvit-62295-Vehicle-Safety-Harness/dp/B000MD3NFO/

Some of my friends ... with only one pug ... use the FidoRider.

I'm a bad pug mom - I just put them in back seat and if I am the passenger I usually hold one on my lap.

I have two pugs and use a car hammock with a zip line like restraint that hooks to a harness. I use a puppia for the harness. This allows them to move about on the back seats and keeps them from harms way at the same time. The zip like goes from right to left and keeps them from becoming projectiles in the event of an accident or sudden stop. They like it as well, they can see out and think they can go anywhere. I got my hammock and zip line at Pet Smart. Marti and my puggers, Desi and Bella

We have tried the seatbelt/harness thingy, and Leo just wezzel'd his way out of that, so I am a bad mum as well, we allow Leo free range in the car, and I know it's the worst thing to do, because if I have to slam on the brakes, Leo goes flying. I don't think I could train him to sit in one of these car seats, I am afraid I will spend the money and it won't work ....

I am thinking the zip line might work though, may have to take a trip to Petsmart to check them out and try

I use a pet taxi as Maggie is very hyper and I'm afraid anything else may result in her getting out of the car when the door is opened and running under a car. Did I mention-she has a listening problem also.

Well we took the plunge and bought a carseat and will try it tomorrow. It looks like a raised bed and we have had it in the kitchen for over a week and she loves to sleep in it. We will see how the restraint part goes over. I will post more after our trip.

i have bought a dog car seat of amazon, £20 pound for the small one, on sale at pets@home for £40.
it is a mesh carrier with a seatbelt attachment and zip openings and the top and side, with a lead attachment inside the carrier.

The new Carseat works great. It is raised so Lucy can see out and she can no longer jump in the front seat every time the car stops. It is very easy to attach to the seatbelt.
