How fast are pugs?

When we're out walking the dogs, sometimes we will run for a bit. (Mostly they run by themselves though, haha)

Anyway, Laifu, our Pomeranian and me are quite equal speed wise..

Bamei on the other hand...   She's fast as lightning.. She'll outrun us both.

She even got enough time to look back at Laifu and make sure she'll cut him off.

Even though she's really short, she's got good strong legs. Must be the reason why she's so fast we reckon.

The funny thing is though, because her legs are so short, when she's running in grass, it seems like she's hovering, hahaha

Is it just Laifu (and me) that are slow, or are pugs fast runners?

pugs can be surprizingly fast especially when doing the pugtona or when they have something in their mouths that they shouldn't !

When Gizmo and I are out playing and she decides to play a game of tag...I can catch her, but she cuts too tightly on grass.  When I do catch up to her in a straight line I'll wack her (softly) on the side of her tooshie and that will usually make her go out of control and tumble.  Sometimes when she runs in cirlces she'll lose her footing and just tumble out of control also.

Pugs can be surprisingly fast!  Like Carol said when they kick into the "Pugtona" thing it is off to the races!  LOL Their tails uncurl and their legs kick into turbo speed!  It is a hoot to watch and guaranteed for a good laugh!

Bertie loves to pick things up that he shouldn't and when he knows he's done something wrong he can go like lightning! He takes socks out of the washing machine and runs outside and goes into hyper mode, running around in circles and his tail goes straight! Sometimes he runs too fast and trips over himself :') So funny to watch.

Robbie is my speed demon, he will run all day at the dog park if I let him.

Frankie has more of a waddle but in short bursts.

Pugsly is like Maddie and runs when he gets something he"s not supose to have.

Pugs really can be fast. They do have alot of muscle in those little back feet. I love the way pugs are built. smushie, but strong.

A pugs speed is directly proportional to the desirability of whatever they have (or would like to have) in their mouths.  Molly can really move it when she's got mulch, or underwear, or a rock in her mouth, or whenever she sees food.  Otherwise she just kind of plods along at a very slow pace.

We should write a book about the Physics of Pugs.  Because in addition to the speed thing, I've noticed something else:  the amount of time a pug needs to go potty is INVERSELY proportional to the amount of time you have to let the pug go potty.  The more rushed you are, the longer it takes for that little monster to make poopy.

OMG, RedRoss9, I'm a writer and a writing teacher.  We could SO write some sort of pug book.  Let's brainstorm on this physics of pugs idea!  It's terrific!  We could--and should--do this!  Think of all the wonderful resources on pugspot, with all of the wisdom, anecdotes, and beautiful pug models!  With your sense of humor, it would be a scream!

I'm totally on board for that!  We can't do the Tao of Pug, because it's been done.  But I'm sure we could come up with something appropriate that showcases the insanity of pugs, your writing ability, and my affinity for science.  Just don't ask me to spell check anything.  I'm a fan of phonetically spelling things when the intellectual powers desert me.

KatB, I guess now's not the time to share that I have a doctorate in rhetoric & linguistics and that my areas of specialized study are composition theory and pedagogy, technical writing, and psycholinguisitcs.  I admit it:  I'm a nerd.  But that's all I have--my career and my pug.  Why do you think I'm so devoted to Maddie?   Ha ha!  It's nice to meet normal people like you instead of dorks like me.  Why else would I be on the computer at 8:00 on a Friday night if I wasn't a nerd?  Ha ha!

You are so right - they are fastest when they pick up some ungodly awful gooey mess or something off the ground - they know they shouldn't have it and you will take it away from them.  I think they should have named the Mazda 3 the "Pug Escape"!

I know that our Ellie is a speed demon.  My wife is a runner and I run occasionally, but Ellie is as fast, if not faster than we are.  It is funny to see her run because she is so low to the ground and seeing the pug body move so fast is just humorous.  She is a quick one though!
