Hi everyone!
I've been wondering for a while how often should I wash my pug? It seems like everyone says something different and I'm afraid to bathe him too often since it could lead to skin problems. How often do you wash your pugs?

We ussually give Frankie a bath every 6 weeks or so...it depends. if he get dirty we give him a rinse down. We try no to do it too much in order not to dry out his skin. But every one has diffrent opions.

Lexi goes to the groomer about 6-8 weeks. This keeps her fur soft.

Thank you! My puppy has only been washed once, he's almost 5 months old & his first bath was about a month ago (maybe I'm wrong but he was so tiny and soft before that I didn't think it was right to wash him, especially since he barely went outside) so I'm thinking it's about time to do it again. It's just hard to tell when they need to be washed since pugs never really smell bad!

Every 6-8 weeks for us, though during allergy season (right now), we bathe once a week (per recommendation from our vet) to wash pollen off so their skin doesn't itch so bad.

Mine get a bath about every 2-3 months OR more often if we are spending a lot of time outside (camping or boating). Then they get a bath as soon as we get home!
However - they get a baby wipe "bath" every night before bed. I probably use 2-3 wipes on each one cleaning their face, paws and just wiping them off all over!

I usally bath my pack at the first of every month, as that is when I put on their flea and tick. I also use waterless bath to freshing up stinky doggies.

Molly has some pretty serious allergies and is prone to skin infections. She gets a bath once a week with an anti-bacterial/anti-fungal shampoo. The others get baths when they start smelling a little funky, or when they get seriously muddy, or when one of the boys decides to pee on one of the other boys. Stan took a generous leak on Gus this weekend. But then again, sometimes Stan pees on his own arm.
So...I'd say probably every 6 weeks or so.

Thank you all very much!
I think I'm going to start with bathing him once a month and see how it goes from there. Right now he loves to play outside and walk in the woods which leaves him pretty dirty afterwards so we'll see if that will be enough.

If you have to bathe him more often and find that he is getting dry skin from the frequent baths, it never hurts to add a bit of fish oil to their diet. Molly and Gus get one capsule a day, cut open and squeezed onto their food.

Thank you for the advice! I will do that if needed

Tanzie get a bath once a week. That is because her dad insists that she sleep with us, and I like a clean smelling pug in my bed. ( she has her own pillow that lies between mine and dads) She get bathed with a puppy or oatmeal shampoo. it;s easier on her skin.
PugMom67 (about 1 year ago)
I bathe mine every 4-6 weeks, or as needed. They rarely smell unless they have found some wonderful, nasty dead something to roll in, but I do my best to avoid that!

It depends how dirty your pug gets, i have 2 pugs and they love to run around and get dirty so they get a shower atleast once a week
the more stinky they are the more i shower them

I bath my puggie once a week with oatmeal shampoo and it helps easing her skin problem.

when i take Romeo for a walk, twice a day we wipe him down with Baby wet wipes and
especially his face as he gets alot of pimples on his under chin. I bath him once in 7 days
and he loves it. He is cute cute cute.

Only when she needs it and no more!

We only bath Leo when need be, as soon as he starts to get the 'doggy' smell, it's off to the groomer's he goes. We don't want to bathe him too much, that's when skin irritations happen (dry skin). We've gone almost 4 months between bathing. If he gets his paws muddy and such during the spring and fall months, we will just wipe them down, and I do clean his ear's and wrinkles when I can. Brushing we do as need be.
KatB (about 1 year ago)
Please just don't forget to wash out those wrinkles and keep ears really clean. That should be done weekly. I do wrinkles every day. And keep them dry.

once a week massage him with a mix of coconut , olive , almond and eucalyptus oil in night and bathe him in morning this will make his blood circulation proper n his skin healthy...after bathing put a drop of mixed eucalyptus n neem oil on his neck , paws and tail..this will ensure ur baby will never have ticks n fleas....clean his wrinkles after every meal first with a wet tissue thn with a dry tissue....have a happy healthy n clean baby....take care!!!
Marta (about 1 year ago)
Thank you all very very much! I brush his fur and clean his wrinkles ears eyes and paws everyday and I've been bathing him whenever I feel it's needed which surprisingly hasn't been very often (considering that he loves to play on dirt). I think he's actually starting to enjoy being washed

I wash the three little pigs oh I mean pugs lol...at least once a month, but i found this new dry shampoo called pethead (instead of bedhead) and its a foam dry shampoo that I use on them weekly sometimes more. Trudy seems to get stinker than the other two. I use baby wipes also and they get a reward of cheese so they like to get groomed. we still stink at cutting nails tho!
mavalvenk (about 1 year ago)
i give Romeo a bath almost every 7 days...but i dont use any shampoo or doggie soap just start the shower, the doggie shampoo i use every once a month. And when i take him out for a walk he has a nice wipe up as welll..every single day.

On sunday i took him to the vet to get his nails clipped and he gave somuch trouble, he started choking, so the vet said k we will do it some other time...when i bring him back from his walk i spray his face with a bit of cold water and i put some ice cubes on his tummy to cool him down. and it works well...he calms down but he doesnt like to drink water..what can i do..to make him...

I think bathing Loopy once a month sounds perfect for him, I've noticed how his fur is so much softer and nicer since I've been doing that (I thought it would be the complete opposite). And the baby wipes sound like a good idea! Oh the nails, I know how much of a trouble it is. When I took him to the vet to get his nails cut he yelled like a kid in pain and the vet ended up cutting A LOT more than just his nails, the poor thing had blood all over his toes. I will never take him there again. I've been practicing it at home , not cutting the nails just touching them with my fingers and the clipper and praising him so he gets used to it, so far it's been working fine, we'll see how it goes when I actually cut them!

We've been bathing them every two weeks because one of the boys will go pee, the other won't wait and will pee on the other. Ick. Our female is pretty good though. Luckily, the boys LOVE the bathtub!
JakeandHolly (about 1 year ago)
Oh, my female HATES the tub, but we bought an Arachnoid? toy that she LOVES and is oblivious to anything going on in the tub when it's in there with her. A life saver! I can even comb her without her screaming.

pugs are prone to skin conditions so try to do as little as poss to cause anything that may affect their skin and its natural oils which should be in their coat too.
ALWAYS clean their faces and nose wrinkles tho, every few days but at least once a week give the crease a good clean with a baby wipe or doggie wet wipe, do their ears too as their faces are often the dirtiest bits and people often bath them thinking they need a wash when its usually just their smelly wrinkles..
