How to stop my pup from being a perv

Hi guys,

I’m not sure which section to put this in, but I thought this might be the best fit. Puck has some really weird behavior when it comes to other dogs. He licks their privates obsessively. I’m not talking about a sniff and a little lick to say hi, he will sit there and lick ANY dog until I tell him to leave it or pull him away. He doesn’t have any kind of preference. He’ll do it to boy dogs, girl dogs, fixed dogs, intact dogs, basically ANY dog! He is fixed, we got him neutered when he was about 6 months old (my vet wouldn’t do it any earlier than that, I don’t know why). He didn’t do it too much when he was little, but it seems to have gotten progressively worse since he got fixed.

We go to the local dog park every other night and he will do it to any dog that stands still long enough. Some dogs turn around and growl or snip if I don’t pull him away—no dog has ever been mean to him, just a “Hey leave that area alone already!” kind of thing. However, he doesn’t seem to pick up social cues and when a dog growls at him, he backs off for two seconds and then goes right back to if (if I let him). I have to watch him very carefully and pull him away. Like I said no dog has ever actually tried to hurt him, but I’m worried one day he’s going to get into trouble with it.

He does this weird obsessive licking of other dog’s privates, but it’s rarely accompanied by humping. The only dog he makes a humping motion to is his girlfriend at the dog park. He will lick her more than any other dog. He gets under her legs (she’s a heeler mix, and much taller than him) and starts to lick her and humps the air. She doesn’t even seem to notice, she’s just a pup about 10 months old and really sweet. She just turns around and starts to play with him. She is spayed, so I don’t understand why Puck goes after her like this.

I try to pull him away every time he does this and make him sit by me for a few seconds to calm down before he gets to go back and play. He never goes farther than 5 feet from me at the dog park, so it is very easy to grab him back. He doesn’t normally go out of his way to do this, but if another dog is close and/or trying to smell him to say hi, he goes to town. Puck is a very submissive dog in general. He’s been around lots of other dogs and lets them take his toys, treats, everything. In fact at the dog park if I throw the ball for him and another dog runs after it too, he’ll let the other dog get it and then just look at me all sad. Has anyone ever had a dog of any kind that has done this? Or have any idea why Puck might do this? Or any tips on how to make him stop? It’s really embarrassing to have to pull Puck out from under a dog because he’s just sitting there licking him/her. Luckily Mindy’s (his gf at the dog park) mom is very understanding and neither her nor Mindy mind. It’s just really really weird and embarrassing for me, and I’d at least like to know why. Any info or advice is appreciated!

generally all animals have this instinct so if your lucky to get them fixed before it kicks in they don't do it... my pug does this all the time too.. and have a blue heeler mix too.. of course a boy.. and he is fixed the pug is a yr old not sure if want to breed or not yet.. but the healer will hump every blanket or pillow that brushes that area... and the pug will go at him shaking everything and anyone close enough my poor heelers look at you with ohh come already... lol..  he goes so fast I can be in another room and feel an earthquake and have to yell knock it off.. Although when the pug was a few months old my sister brought her female dog over and the heeler's girlfiriend so had to laugh as we were yelling knock it off.. atleast he got it right lol...

Folks, I know it is unpleasent to watch but this is how God made them. This is how they recieve information about other dogs. They can establish where a dog has been, what he/she has been eating, and what rank they are in pecking order. And some dogs do the licking thing to show submission and acceptance into a pack. Puck is just doing what dogs do. Have you ever watched as some dogs will upon greeting a strange dog, role over on their back and show their underside? This is a sign of submission, and saying don't hurt me, and I trust you. Also licking of each others mouth. Some of the dogs he is licking could be in season or going out of one. It attracts him. Using correction pulls and a command will help. I say keep doing it. Leave It! would work the best. Have patience. Take time. And even with all that you may always have a very nosie pug. TeeHee.

Mugzy does the same thing to other dogs! everytime we go to the dog park he doesn't play with any other dogs all he wants to do is just licking their private parts!!! last time i brought a spray bottle with just water and a little vinager and once he started i would call him and if he didn't stop i would spray but, then he just moved on to another dog..... so, if you find anything that helps Puck please let me know
