lost his curl

My 6 year old pug for the past few days has been walking around with his tail straight. He will curl it when he goes outside for a little while. I called his vet but she said it is nothing to worry about. I thought maybe he hurt it but it doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it. Is this normal? Could he be depressed?

that's werid, I know my little puggers will have his tail straight when he is relaxing such as laying down. I dont think this is anything to be worried about, he just might like it straight.

my little girl does that when she is upset or nervous but my big girl doesn't have a curl because she was hurt by someone when she was small, her tail is straight and lays up her back like a monkey tail. maybe he's just doesn't feel like curling it, as long as he is otherwise healthy i wouldn't be too concerned. it could be possible he is depressed and just needs some extra attention also.

An uncurled tail does not always mean something is wrong. Every pug that I have had has done this at one time or other. Why? could be many reasons, I would start worrying if it goes on more than a week or you start to see other signs of illness along with it. Just my opionion.

I agree with KatB, their tail is usually a good indicator of their mood. If he is eating and playing like normal, I would not worrie. Things like someone in the household is out of town, change in furniture or anything that may worrie the pug can cause this. I am having work done on my house and Desi's tail was down the first two days. Keep a watch on your baby and let us know how he is doing.

My 12 year old pug, Junie, has a condition called "propioception", which is caused by the compression of some of the discs in her thoracic and lumbar spine. The slight pressure on her spinal cord causes some misperception re: where her hind legs are placed, and at times, her tail doesn't curl consistently. You're good to pay such close attention. Just remain observant- make sure he isn't wobbling, etc. If it continues to concern you, symptoms change, etc., I'm always for actually having the baby examined by their vet in person.

My 3 yr old, Novalee lets her curl down when she is a little unsure of her surroundings and feeling vulnerable. I can tell she is anxious. She hold her ears differently too. So funny...to think a Pugs curl is the barometer of their emotions!!!
