I have heard the doggies need lots of fluids when they have this problem with the kidney involvement, but other wise I don't know anything about it.  I just want to say we will pray for Hummer - I know how you feel about your puggie!  Sending prayers for him that he will recover.  I am sure KatB or RedRoss9 might have more knowledge than me.  Hang in there!

One thing that does occur is Hummer should have an X ray for his back - you mentioned he had been parlyzed for a while - he may have a bad disc in his spine - which is pretty painful, I'm sorry to say.  It would make him hunch his back up like that!  I don't know if it would have the effect you are seeing on his kidneys.

Risha, just put the names KatB or Redross9 into the search engine in the upper left hand corner.  But he might need his upper spine looked at too.  When you get onto KatB's page, (or her photo page) you can send her a message!

I really don't have any idea either.... but I would be finding a specialist to check her out, not just a regular vet.  Look for an internist. and go right away, kidneys are nothing to fool around with.

Sorry kids I just got messages on this one. I am not a vet, and really don't have much to offer you. I am so sorry. I have only what happened to my Jap. Chin. And your case is so different. May I ask how was your pugger hurt? And what did Vets do? What meds were given for pain and the injury itself? Xrays- what did it show was injuried? I am taking it your pug can walk now? But has a hump on his back. Did they do any surgery?  Did your vets talk to you about possiable therapy after the injury, like accupuncher, or lazer theropy, chiropactic theropy? The kidney thing really has me worried. What are your vets doing about the kidney problems, besides no protein diet? I am so sorry I can't help you more. Use your search  on your computer and type in the kidney thing. You have to get a hit somewhere to help you understand more of what is going on. Sending lots and lots of prayers for you and your pugger. I know it's tuff, but don't give up on him yet.

There is a condition in people called rhabdomyolysis, which is caused by breakdown of skeletal muscle usually due to injury or trauma. The breakdown of the muscle causes protein to be released into the bloodstream which is then filtered through the kidneys. Too much protein going through the kidneys is not good and can cause renal failure.(Thus the low protein diet for your puggy). The usual treatment as someone else mentioned is agressive treatment with intravenous fluids. Also be sure to monitor your pugs urine output (amount, color etc.) Hope this helps. Good luck and I hope your puggy gets to feeling better.

yes katb i have got him treated at hospital and vet has said no internal injury to his hind legs is there he can walk but his hind legs r very weak he sometimes picks them up and just walk on his front legs thats just very painfull to see he has been given injections of lasix 0.3ml,perinom 0.3ml,aciloc 0.25ml,polybion 1 ml,rl and dns on alternative days this treatment went for 5 days after his blood reports showed that his creatnine lvls r 2.3 then again we had his tests and his creatnine levels were 2.8 no improvement was made then my vet gave him lasix 20 mg tablet, gelusil syrup, polybion syrup and this went for again a week and then we got his blood tests done and the reports showed his levels to be 3.0 it was just very painfull to hear that his kidneys were damaging inspite of many efforts made by doc and me then the doc told me to repeat the same medicines for a week and i did that and now in 2-3 days i will be taking him to the doc again for his blood testa to be done and then we will get to know what r his current creatnine levels i have everythng that could be done to save his kidneys money is flowing like water but i just wannt my hummer to be fine i thnk the breeder gave me a wrong or sick pug

The lasix is a diuretic which most likely was given to make your pug urinate more and flush out his kidneys faster. As far as the other meds I'm not sure of the reason why they were prescribed. I'm sure your vet had a reason. If your vet continues to go with the same treatments that don't seem to be working I would seek a second opinion. Good luck.

Right, you must seek out whatever alternatives are available.  I hope his new test results show some improvement.
