off Prednisone.

My Ravi has a collapsing trachea, and has been taking prednisone. Im not too thrilled by that idea, so I asked the vet if I could try having him not take it to see if it makes any difference. So far, things have been fine. Anyone else hasve experience with prednisone? Thanks! Usha

Yes, China Rose takes it once in awhile due to the itchy's. I don't like it either, but it has to be. Usually only when she is having a ruff time, and then just a few days.

My Libby is taking 20mg./day. She was down to 10mg./day but the itchies came back with vengeance. Of course she is 65lbs. but still, the idea is to get them on the lowest dose possible.
Good Luck! Doc

Using prednisone, can be scary. But remember that sometimes depending on the problem, it is a good course of action to get things under control. The vets know the side effects from this. And a good vet will monitor usage to try to avoid any problems down the road. It all kinda depends on what the illness/injury is. Prednisone can really help.

Libby is a pitty/lab and weighs 65 lbs. Her allergies are so bad that she has patches of hair falling out all over her body. Her hind legs hardly have any hair on them. Last Saturday, I took her into her vet and she said to up her dose from 10mg/day to 20mg. for 5 days than back to 10mg. She has stopped itching and hopefully, her fur will come back. Poor pooch!!!

Oh poor Libby. China has been having the itchies as well over the last two weeks as well. It's getting to be that time of year. The darn heat wave broke around here, and puppies are outside playing and rolling around the yard. UGGGG!
