Pug ranch question

Hello all! So on Saturday I will be going to Carmi, IL to pick up my new pug and was wondering if anyone has purchased a pug from AJ Pug Ranch. I haven't been able to find any reviews or testimonials on the place and want to make sure it's legit before I drive all the way out there.

Go to ajpugranch.com They have a web page. I googled them. Typed in AJ Pug Ranch in Carmi, Il. and it brought it up. Says they are AKC certifide, DNA tested. But this all means nothing really. People used this angel to sell all the time. You will need to go by what you see around you. If they are not willing to show you around the property, then don't buy. Ask to see breeding parents of the pug you are looking at. Ask who is there Vet that has treated the litter, and give them a call by all means. Ask to see all AKC registration. Do ask if they have PDE tested parents and have documentation of the test. Be pleasant when you are talking to them, but use your good common sense, Look for anything that looks bad. Dirty runs, to many pugs in one run. If it doesn't feel right don't buy. Look before you look at the puppies. After you are feeling good about the kennel and the owners, then look at the puppies. Remember, There are just as many good reputable dogs breeders as bad. Don't buy a puppy because you feel sorry for it's living conditions. If this is the case, report it, don't buy.

Thanks for your help! I was able to locate the vet that this place uses and they were able to verify everything for me.

And - a really good breeder will ask you as many questions that you ask them - they will be folks who raise a very limited number of litters and are in it for love, not for money. They want to make sure their babies go to good parents.

c adams , How's it going with your pug from AJpugranch. I'm in Illinois and we just lost our girl. We need to get 2 more. How are they as breeders and is your pug healthy. Would you recommend them? Thanks, Cathy

Hey Cathym- I'm so sorry to hear that, hope you are doing okay. The pug I got from AJ Pug Ranch turned out to be wonderful! I have not had any problems and she is perfectly healthy and very active. The breeders themselves were very polite and well informed and the ranch was clean and organized, all of the pugs looked well taken care of. The only negative thing is that they had ALOT of pugs and were feeding them purina puppy chow, which is not very healthy for a growing puppy. Also, the wrinkle in my pugs nose was filled with wax that I had to scrape out so I'm not sure that they gave attention to each pug. I would definitely recommend them, however, I have noticed that their website has not been updated with the new litters they were expecting so I would give them a call and make sure they still have any available and are still open. Good luck!

I got both of my pugs from them. They are wonderful, well tempered, beautiful pugs. Wonderful personalities and both passed their CGC tests. The facility is clean, the dogs are well cared for. They will take you around the property and let you meet the pugs. All medical paperwork was in order. I've had my pugs 4.5 and 3.5 years, no health issues at all.

Our Pug from AJ Pug Ranch just turned 1. He is healthy and energetic and has a wonderful Pug personality. We will definitely be getting another pup from this breeder. When we were looking for a breeder I was searching for reviews of AJ Pug Ranch and found KatB's message above which was very informative and accurate. They are wonderful people and the facility was clean. We were given a full tour and tons of information before we were even shown the puppies. I also left there knowing that if i had any questions that I could reach out to Jan. I highly recommend AJ Pug Ranch.

Hi all I am looking into getting a pug from AJ pug ranch as well. Do they let you go and look at their ranch and pick out the puppy when it is born then you wait till it is 8 weeks and pick it up? I would appreciate one of you that has already gotten a pug from this ranch to let me know what you did. The above post from c_adams worried me a little bit. They said they were going to pick up their puppy and hadn't even been there before. Me and my family would really like to be able to look at them and pick the one we want out. It seems weird to me to get a puppy without even seeing it first. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi ickincheloe! You definitely can go see and puck out a pug from them when they are born. The only reason I didn't go out there before I purchased is because I'm over 5 hours away. But they did send me plenty of pictures when they were born and I did a ton of research and contacted their local vet.

Thanks so much c_adams. My family and I only live about an hour away that's why I was asking. We would love to go pick a puppy now but they said that there weren't going to be any more puppies born till April. We are so excited! My son is very impatient and can't wait to get his puppy home. He is six and doesn't understand it isn't for sure and we will have to wait a few months after we pick them to bring our new family member home. I hope we are able to pick one out before everyone else. I can't believe how hard it is to find a good breeder around this area. How is your pug baby doing since you picked it up 2 years ago? Again thanks for the information it is much appreciated

We purchased a pug from them in Dec. 2014. He was the last one available since all others were accounted for. He has the absolute best disposition and has had no health issues or concerns. We were very happy with this breeder and with our little guy Cooper!

We only have about 2 weeks till we get to go and pick up our little Willie Joe. I have been to AJ Pug Ranch 3 times now once to look around and meet the breeders and twice to see and hold our pug puppy. Jan is great! So nice and you can really tell she truly cares for her pugs. I would highly recommend the AJ Pug Ranch. Her website says you can email her but I would suggest calling her. She gets so very busy it is really hard for her to answer all the emails she gets.

We are going to pick up our pug on August 13, but we have not had much communication from them so I am a little nervous. We asked for a photo and they sent us one photo of three or four puppies huddled together. We live about 6 hours away so it is not that easy to make a quick day trip down there to visit the ranch first hand. I have called and she is readily available by phone, but email and text is hit or miss. Anyone else with any experience with AJ Rug Ranch? Oh and lckincheloe how did your pick up go?

So we went and picked up our Puppy Brutus at the ranch, it was the first time we had been there. I must say it was very neat and tidy, I believe there were 4 separate enclosures and each had a momma and her litter in them. There had been a handful of families there to pick up their puppies that day already, as we didn't get there until around noon. Jan was great and you could tell she really cares about the pups, if we ever decide to get another we will definitely use the Pug Ranch again!

Better call her now and put in your request. You need two pugs to make your life complete. Two is best they bound and play together. Besides when is naughty they rat the other one out!

Trying to help others purchasing pugs from AJ pug ranch in Carmi. While the facility was clean and the pugs looked well taken care of, we had a horrible experience. Our pug is now 3. We bought him from this place in August 2014. 48 hours after bringing him home, he was diagnosed with Parvo. We didn’t have any other dogs and the emergency vet said he had it when we picked him up. He fought for his life and was lucky to survive. These breeders were not accountable for our pugs illness. They offered no help with medical expenses and stated we gave him the illness. About a month ago, our baby boy started having seizures and low and behold he was diagnosed with PDE. I contacted the breeders because our vet stated that if one pug out of the litter has it, then it is more than likely they all have it from this litter. They didn’t take down any of my information or seem to care that this was the second issue we had with one of their pugs. While there is a treatment available for PDE, it is extremely costly. We are in month 2 of treatment and hoping for the best. Please do your research before buying a pug from this place. While our pug is extremely good natured and kind, I wouldn’t wish our journey with him on anyone. He has been sick much of his life and I know we will never go back to AJ Pug Ranch. This pug is our entire world and I just hope that no one else has to experience this.

My family is looking to purchase a pug from AJ Pug Ranch, and I was wondering how everyone's pugs from their facility are doing? I'm glad to see so many positive experiences with them written up here, but chasse I'm so sorry to hear about the difficulties you've had with your pug. It does concern me that the breeders dismissed your issue with Parvo right after you got the puppy. I read another disturbing google review from someone who got a pug from this breeder, and on the way home discovered it was covered in fleas, and the dog has needed several surgeries for issues with it's airway. I sent an email to Jan, inquiring about getting a puppy from them, and she said they are expecting 3 litters in February. I thought that was kind of a lot to be expecting all at once. Made me a little concerned about how much they might breed their dogs, but then I don't really know what is typical for most breeders. We lost our first and only pug last May, and we are all just desperate for a new fur baby. AJ ranch seems to be the closest breeder to us, so I'm just trying to do a bit of research on them.
