Shedding

Our little Ming (5 months old) is shedding like a demon shedder.

when we first got her the shedding wasn't really bad, but i have noticed that the shedding has gotten really really bad.

i have been brushing her (with a kong glove type thingy) and have added salmon oil to her diet but the shedding is still occuring. Is this seasonal? is she shedding because we are in the middle of winter (live in South Africa) will she stop at some point? how can i control the shedding ?

any help would be great !

Pugs are notoriously big shedders. If your pug has a double coat, it'll be even worse (we have one pug that has a double coat but the other doesn't).

If she has a double coat, typically she'll shed pretty heavily once a year (large clumps will come out) but otherwise it'll pretty much always be a battle of the hair.

Check out this article about some ways to help reduce the shedding.

Pugs shed year round! Constantly and the fawn ones shed the most. A lot of owners get a wardrobe and furniture to match their pug. I brush Baxter everyday and he also only has one coat (the fawn ones usually have two) so he doesn't shed too much but he still sheds a lot more than other dogs. My mom has a finnish spitz (they are big shedders too) and she usesThe Furminator system. It helps a lot but it is a little pricey. Everyone I know eventually got used to the hair but if you feel like your can't adjust to little blonde hairs being EVERYWHERE it might be worth the money to check out deshedding systems.

FURMINATOR, FURMINATOR, FURMINATOR!!!!!!! Seriously the best de-shedding tool ever. I paid $34.99 for mine in Canada, which to me wasn't too outrageous, but it's one of the best investments I've made since I inherited my pug!! I highly recommend getting one!!!

You have sold me on the furminator except that i dont think they sell them here in SA. I will have to do some research!

Thanks for the help.

I would think either one would work good. We have the small as that was the one on sale when I bought it.

I had to chuckle at CaliPug... We do have clothes to match the fawn color... It's been so long since I wore anything black!!

Our Charile Bob appears to have three coats of hair... he walks, he sheds...  We it gets warm, we have him shaved by our groomer... he feels so much better and reduces a lot of the panting... It's also best to get a good vacuum cleaner and vacuum everyday to keep on top of the hair!!!

omg the shedding how bad is it.. i have a beautiful lilttle black pug and i swear to god everything i own literally has francesca hairs on it.. there is just francesca hairs EVERYWHERE.. it does my head in.. i sometimes just want to cover her in hair gel so she wont put hair everywhere.. oooooooooooooooooo and by the way thank for the heads up on the furminator i shall be getting one because seriously i cant eat or drink anything without finding at least one hair on it lol. and the annoying thing is i vaccume my house bout 3 times a day and im a clean freak so its not as if i let my house be hair covered lol..to be honest the worst part of shedding is when u bath them.. a disturbing amount of hair comes off her lol...and when i dry her its soooooooooooooooo bad her towels are litterally covered in her hair..hehehe i have to laugh at the fawn pug owners talking bout wearing black hehhe cos i cannot wear anything white omg its rediculous it becomes covered in her black hair in about 2 seconds..

I to am laughing at this thread. That's pugs! HAHAHAHA! They share everything. I have to agree with all the advice. The furmanator is the best along with good diet, and lots of reg. brushing, and bathes. I hate to even post this, as I hate when people do it, but also understand everyone is different in how they do things. Some pug owners have their puggers shaved. (I HATE IT WHEN THEY DO IT) HAHAHAHA! But am sharing tips. I prefer to just own a really really good vaccum cleaner.

It really is. I have the small one, which i feel works better for smaller dogs and its cheaper! But yes, best investment ever!

Zuji (6 months ago)

~ As Zuji has grown the shedding has begun.

It's mild with very little hair in evidence.

Perhaps he has only a single coat. I'm uncertain as to how to judge that.
