My 5 month old puppy likes to jump onto our white leather lounge when we are not looking. Sometimes he will be running around being cheeky and jump onto it. He is allowed to sit on our laps on the lounge, just not him on the lounge. So our training has been this: when he puts his front paws on lounge, we click and say off. He sits down and waits to be lifted onto our laps. But we don't want him sitting on our white leather couch. I have bought up the idea if letting him only jump onto the part that has his blanket but my hubby says NO DOG ON LOUNGE, so..I'm wondering if kato thinks cos he is allowed to sit on our laps, he is allowed to sit on the lounge??!!

I think the best way would be to make it super clear by petting him in your lap on the floor rather than on the sofa. Keep it simple for the pup.
My Boone is ALWAYS jumping on the sofa. I push him down and say 'no' (this is the word he knows when something is not allowed.) He understands and gets down, sometimes he needs telling twice or a stern look, but he knows he isn't allowed, especially when I'm eating etc.
Plus, my sofa is black and his fawn fur is a nightmare! But because I sometimes allow him on, it probaby confuses him. Also, pugs are so so stubborn.
Just keep it consistent so it's easy for the pup to understand, but it may be an on going thing when he jumps on. As long as he understands your commands though at least in the future he will listen when you tell him 'down' even if he won't listen to the fact he isn't allowed up in the first place. Good luck!

I think it must be confusing to him to at one time sit on your lap, but not on the couch....consistency is the key cos they will test you every time! Have patience...good luck!

We gave up! He got desexed neatly 2 wks ago and my hubby felt bad for him..as you know..snip snip. So we have just let him on the couch now. As long as he doesn't scratch or rip into the lounge..it's ok that he is on the lounge. Spoilt doggy!! We just love him.

The problem I see, is confussion. Your letting him on your lap when you are on the couch. Telling him it's ok to be up there. Lap doesn't matter. It's not going to work. Don't feel bad about getting him snipped as you say. He's a better man for it. HA! And I'm glad you gave in to him getting on the couch. Just invest in a good vaccum. Pugs are couch potatoes, and need to be close to us and snuggle. That's what they were made for. Enjoy your little pugger. Love him like no tomorrow. Couches can be cleaned.
