Treats bed & crate cushion like toy

Our little guy is treating his bed and anything soft to pad his crate as a toy.  He will stop playing with his actual toy and then start dragging his bed around, or if he is in the area with his crate, he will drag whatever soft padding is in there out (as far as we can figure) and ends up dragging his crate all around the apartment.  Which although funny at first, I'm thinking would be very annoying for the people under us.  And apart from that, we obviously don't want him getting into the habit of destroying his beds because he does also like to sleep on them.

For the crate itself, I'm worried that he will start sleeping on his pee pad if we take the padding out of his crate, because when he's locked himself out of it previously (when he was brand new to us), he did start sleeping on it instead of the floor.

Any one have any suggestions?

Hahaha - I can just imagine!  The joy of puppies - they don't get it at first!  You might have to put his crate away during the day and just wait until he is ready for bed at night to allow him access to it.  In the meantime provide him with something soft to sleep on during the day.  When the time comes you are pretty sure he will fall asleep, allow him access to his crate.  (And of course, when you need to put him in it if you crate him when you go out.)  After a while he will forget about using his crate and its contents as a toy and will associate it with sleeping - hopefully.  It may take a few months!

Thanks Jan and Sass,

We've already implemented your ideas and hopefully he figures it out soon
