About Me

Such an innocent looking pug with her sweet face and small size. You better watch out because under that sweet dog skin lives a true wolf at heart. Gracie Lou is an independent girl and she lets everyone know it. She was the first puppy in her litter to make a sound and she was first to climb out of the whelping box. When Gracie Lou came home she quickly whipped the boys into shape letting them all know she was the new boss. She is the smallest of our pugs but she is by far the worst when it comes to being dominant. She's not big on being held and she'll sleep on your lap but only when "she" wants to. Lucky for me Gracie Lou chooses to demure to me. She fully understands and respects the fact that I'm the alpha in the pack. To this day I'm amazed how much she respects me. I know I dodged a bullet with that one. If she choose to not listen me and became dificult she would be quite a handful. I've noticed, in my experience, that black pugs do not have the same disposition as fawn colored pugs. Fawn pugs seem to be a bit more low key and patient. Both of my black pugs are bossy and impatient. My black pugs, Gracie Lou and Dudley, fight often. When I fix meals I have to sepparate them; if I don't they will fight until the food is put down. Don't get me wrong, I love Gracie Lou and wouldn't trade her for anything. I just mean I won't be bringing home any black pugs any time soon. One Gracie Lou is enough for me. Originally, I planned to breed Gracie Lou but that wasn't in the cards for her. During surgery to remove a cyst (something she is very prone to getting ,) I had my vet x-ray her hips while she was out. My vet called me before the surgery was finished to let me know that she had a bad case of hip displyasia. I pretty much already knew that was the case so I had my vet spay her while she was still out. Spaying Gracie Lou hasn't calmed her down at all. Once she even tried to bite the UPS man. He only reached down to pet her. I couldn't believe it she really tried to "Bite" him. I did witness one time when the tables were turned on Gracie Lou. Gracie Lou was in the yard with me and one of our cats strolled out onto the grass about 10 feet away. Gracie decided to chase the cat under a bush. All of a sudden Gracie comes running with her tail between her legs and then I see the cat chasing after her. I had a good laugh at her expense; you could tell she was completely humillitated. Gracie Lou has earned her first leg towards her Rally Obedience Novice title. She is very smart and easy to train. I really think she could go far in Rally Obedience even farther than my other Rally Obedience competing pug, Buhdi. Gracie Lou is a pleaser and tries very hard to do what you want. As is the tradition in the Kidder household Gracie Lou's name comes from a movie. She gets her name from the movie Ms. Congeniallity, Sandra Bullock's character had an undercover name - Gracie Lou Freebush.
